What is architecture?

This question usually confuse me even when I finish my BA interior design and MA architecture, in my opinion, the overview of architecture maybe "metadata" of building, it is a explain for building not just a space be designed by architect or designer.

British Architect Paul Oliver the pioneer of vernacular architecture studies got same hesitation about it, he traveled over 70 countries in his career and took over 22,500 photographs to capture different and diversity building in different culture, Oliver documented building materials, technologies, forms, details and decorations, as well as the people that made.

Through his view maybe we can get a glimpse of ARCHITECTURE around the world, and figure out what is it meaning for.
